Take action now! Sign this petition to demand that Macquarie University reverse its decision to discontinue Croatian, Italian, German, Modern Greek, and Russian courses.

Language proficiency is essential for fostering cultural appreciation and maintaining global relevance. We must ensure that students have access to these languages at the tertiary level, providing them with pathways beyond their Higher School Certificate.

Let's safeguard these vital educational opportunities for our future generations.

Please retain these 5 languages at Macquarie University. We need diversity to be represented & supported by our community. Especially Italian & German. Look at Australia's recent history! And our migration. Invaluable for family and those interested & needing them for work or interest etc.

Learning another language is proven to develop empathy and understanding of other perspectives. These are crucial to move towards a more tolerant and peaceful world. Discontinuing languages courses is short sighted and a false economy.

If I had a dollar for every student that has said to me "I wish I'd learnt Italian" I'd probably be a millionaire. Don't fall into the trap of the monolingual mindset, knowing a language is a gift for life and opens your world to new and wonderful experiences.

I learnt German at Macquarie as part of my teaching degree. The staff were fantastic and shared their love of German and their wide outlook on the world and the part Germany and the German language plays. Keep a wide and international perspective alive at Macquarie!

Getting rid of these language courses impacts schools, teachers, and students all over the country. Language skills provide endless opportunities and this will close so many doors for students.

That German and Italian are being discontinued is beyond belief. Especially German has been taught at the Uni for decades. In these times where global interaction is vital, this must be reconsidered.

This is a tragedy. Google translate cannot convey true feelings behind words or subtleties of meaning.

A narrowing down of the languages offered will affect future generations. How sad that Macquarie is even considering this.
