On April 22, 2012, in a Major League Baseball contest between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers, a bunted baseball by the Rangers' Alberto Gonzalez hit his knee immediately after being bunted and skipped into fair territory in front of home plate. With the bases loaded, Gonzalez advanced to first and the game-winning run scored from third base. By rule, the ball should have been ruled dead after hitting Gonzalez's knee. Umpires officiating the contest discussed the play after protest from the Tigers' manager, Jim Leyland, but made no change in the initial ruling, leaving Gonzalez safe at first and the run on the board. Major League Baseball has only bent slightly in allowing the use of video replay to ascertain whether home runs are indeed home runs or not. Video replay needs to be expanded. The inability of Major League Baseball to allow video replay has cost a team a close game. Will it be a World Series game decided on an incorrect call that Major League Baseball won't allow to be reviewed? Former Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was cheated out of a perfect game in 2010, and now the Tigers were cheated out of a potential series split with the Rangers in 2012. It's time for Major League Baseball to get with the program with the other major sports here in the United States. Sign this petition and stand with us: Major League Baseball should implement a complete and comprehensive video replay system. Ending the game sooner shouldn't be at the expense of a victory.
