Over the past few months I have heard more and more about the common failure of the AYC pump in the Mitsubishi Ralliarts/Evolutions. I am not happy with the way mitsubishi has handled this thus far and have decided to make a petition to see actually how many people have suffered from this problem.
What we know:
1. The pump failure is caused by improper seals of the pump itself allowing road grime and salts to enter the pump and cause it to fail prematurely
2. The fluid that comes stock with the pump is only rated for -15C, we as Canadians know it gets much colder then that in our winter times. After this -15, the fluid gels and causes the pump to fail.
I have sent e-mails to Mitsubishi, as well as the Canadian road safety board concerning this matter but would like to take it to the next step which is why this petition is being created. The consumer warranty act of Canada states that "the product is reasonably durable and fit for the use intended as well as for any specific purpose stated by the retailer" This is great considering mitsubishi warranties the pump for 3yr 60,000km but what happens after that? You are left with a $4000 bill to replace an item that should be covered under the powertrain warranty. Mitsubishi prides themselves on their All Wheel Drive capabilities, and for a pump to start malfunctioning after -15C is unacceptable for our climates and something needs to change.

Mitsubishi Canada has recently (January 2015) extended the warranty on the ACD pump to 10yrs/150,000 km. Just had mine replace at dealer. Cost: $0. They will also reimburse those who have paid the $1500-$3000 to have this done prior to 2015. Finally Mitsu has addressed this problem. I don;t know about Mitsu USA.
ACD pump failed when temps dropped to -20 & colder... pretty shitty design for a $50,000 car! love my car but will never buy another Mitsubishi again!
AYC/ACD Pump failed at 80,000km, repair cost over $3000 for new pump, attempted to rebuild pump only lasted about six months then pump motor failed and ended up buying a brand new pump when mitsubishi suddenly decided to drop the price of the pumps to $1500 ... now with 110,000km pump started acting up in -20 degrees weather
Mine went at 39000. This is a problem that us caused because the pump isn't properly sealed and corrosion builds inside. That's the companie's fault not evo owners.
A Evo/RA worst nightmare, rate as best winter vehicles however we all dread the day the pump goes...needs to be recalled/covered under 5yr power train warranty, need new fluid/relocation kit and a shield/enclosure to protect against debris.

Mine is dying and the dealership won’t want Warranty it because of a simple cobb tune and drop in panel filter, otherwise bone stock only 60,000km
