Although Miss Latchman has only been at Stuyvesant for a short period of time, the positive impact that she’s had on many of her student’s lives will last forever. Unfortunately, she was just a replacement for another teacher and her current contract terminates at the end of this semester. If you have/have had Miss Latchman as a teacher during this school year, please sign this petition to let the administration know how many of us want her to become a permanent member of the faculty so that she can enrich the lives of future Stuy students in the same way she has ours.

Updates

The stories students are sharing about their time in Miss Latchman's classroom reveal just how much a dedicated teacher changes the rhythm of a school day. I am currently organizing these testimonials to present to the administration as a testament to her value here. Your experiences carry significant weight and continue to shape my approach to this process.

Seeing this community unite behind Miss Latchman reminds me how deeply a single teacher can change the culture of a classroom. The momentum growing here reflects the genuine appreciation students feel for her dedication and guidance.

Miss Latchman is a phenomenal teacher who challenges her students to be the best they can. Class discussions become the students' responsibility and creates a comfortable and expressive environment where we not only learn from her interjections, but from each other. Her text and assignment selections are fantastic and thought-provoking, and perhaps most importantly, Miss Latchman cares about her students. She goes out of her way to make sure her students' well being is placed before nearly anything else and accommodates their problems. Miss Latchman belongs at Stuyvesant.

She's extremely dedicated to her job, and frequently stays after school to help us, individually. Keeping her at Stuy would be nothing but beneficial to future students!

Throughout this year, I learned so much through Miss Latchman. She has changed one of the classes I've hated to a class I look forward to coming to. I hated writing as a child but loved reading but I think I am slowly changing and I can see improvement in my writing. Miss Latchman has helped me along this year and I wish that all teachers were like Her. Let's keep Miss Latchman in Stuy!

Although I've never had Ms. Latchman, I've heard many nice stories about her. I've also seen her many times at the library helping out students that weren't even hers. For example, she helped my friend out by looking over his I-Search interview questions right before the interview, when he needed it the most. This shows that she cares a lot about students in general, not just about her own. Through this single act alone, I can tell that she truly loves teaching and deserves the chance to stay at Stuy.

Miss Latchman was the one teacher in my many years as a student that truly made me enjoy a class. I couldn't agree more that she deserves to stay in Stuy. She is one of the few teachers that actually meant it when she said she wanted to get to know her students. In a school full of introverts, Miss Latchman would motivate us to come out of that introvert-like behavior and share out our ideas in the class. I feel as though her experiences in Stuy herself made her understand what it's like to be a student just like one of us which is rare among the many teachers at Stuy.

Miss Latchman is a superb teacher who gives aim questions that makes you engage into a book. Her love for the reading she teaches spreads like wildfire. Because she was once a Stuyvesant Student, she understands that we all are sometimes busy with other things and will understand if you have complications. She is so nice and I wish that she will stay as a teacher at Stuyvesant
