The government finally passed the legislation to penalize those who illegally block our accessible parking spaces. I know how much this struggle has weighed on all of us who navigate these daily barriers. Thank you for staying with me until the very end because this change belongs to you.

You can be charged for something as simple as throwing a napkin from your car. But yet there is no law in place to charge someone a fine for parking in a space reserved for persons with disabilities. Help us change this.

The Caribbean Kids and Families Therapy Organisation and National Centre for Persons with Disabilities are starting an online petition to gather 5,000 names of persons who want to see this law introduced.

This is part of our ongoing programme titled:Social Integration for Persons with Disabilities, made possible with generous support from Repsol.

Simply state your name in the space provided and share this with your friends and have them do the same.

We’ll then hand over this petition to Government and policy makers and put pressure on them to bring this law into effect.

Let’s come together and help introduce a law that’s standard in all first-world countries and which will deter selfish people from taking advantage of a loophole in our legal system.

I have been spending my time meeting with policy experts to ensure our proposal is airtight when it finally reaches the government. Hearing your personal stories about being blocked from accessible parking motivates me to keep pushing this forward despite the slow pace of bureaucracy.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me of the daily struggle my friends face when they cannot find accessible parking. Your support proves that people finally understand how vital this change is for our community.

I think it is about that time....for way too long our national policies seem to overlook those of us whose voices (or pockets) aren't as loud as the others. It's time we lend our voice.

A specialty law validates a disable person to have access to disable parking in private or public places in Trinidad&Tobago.

I definitely support this petition as one of person with handicapped van needing parking spots every time I go out, which is about 4 times a week and some able body is always parked in spot for handicapped vehicles. Well that person seems more handicapped than me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on you, hope it will stop soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I endorse your drive 200%. I have been highlighting this for a very long time now even posting pics of persons parked is zones designated for the differently abled.

This needs to be done. I have seen too many abled bodied using these reserved parking because they too lazy to walk.

I wholeheartedly support this but there also have to be provisions in place for stickers to be assigned to persons who use these spots so that they can be clearly identified.

Permits need to be given and law breakers need to be fined!
