This petition is from Mill Creek parents to SMSD administrators regarding the current class sizes for Mill Creek Elementary 3rd graders. Our children are facing a crucial academic year, and we strongly believe high classroom numbers will negatively impact their education. Given the academic load of third grade, the decision to consolidate three classes into two seems untimely. Mill Creek will simply not be able to maintain the same standard of excellence if our teachers are asked to manage a classroom of 27 children who are all at once in need of guidance to understand new and challenging concepts. Our children will not only face reduced individualized attention, but also lost curriculum time to class redirection and the likely potential of being overlooked. We strongly believe our teachers and students are not positioned for success and a solution must be reached quickly.

We are collectively advocating for a third classroom. If budget allocations do not allow for this, the dialogue must remain to find some viable solution in the form of additional support for our teachers.
