This needs to be fixed. There is no reason to punish military spouses for being moved from state to state. This needs to be forwarded to all state leaders. This state is hemorrhaging teachers and now there is an extra requirement for service connected educators that will only exacerbate this problem. This will affect Cumberland, Harnett, Lee, Wayne, Johnston and many other counties that surround the marine bases in eastern NC as well.

The certification requirements should not exceed the actual level that the teacher oversees, e.g. 3rd graders don’t study pre-calculus.

I think if you are already a teacher, or pass any states’ requirements to become a teacher, military spouses should be given a federal teaching lisence recognized by all states. This should be paid for by the Department of Defense, similar to MYCAA.

The Pearson test are ridiculous! It doesn’t measure how well you can teach or not. Just a way to make people fail!!!!! It’s not fair!!!

Reciprocity should be given to all military spouses. They dont choose where they move to.

If a military spouse has been certified in any state, she/he should be allowed to teach in the state where the spouse is stationed.

I am in the same boat. My provisional license expires tomorrow because of a math exam. I have taken that math test twice and taking it again on July 13. I can't be rehired unless I pass this and I'm not even a math teacher. I teach EC kids who will NEVER be able to use this math content on this test.

This test requires us to write an essay about any given topic about US History or World History. The math exam requires us to retain knowledge about slopes, functions, statistics, and probability. I have yet to teach any of those math concepts in 3rd grade standards. I present History lessons inside my classroom in many different ways, but this exam requires me to write an essay about movements that led to the Enlightenment Period. Again, this is not a third grade standard!

I will be in the same situation next year if I do not pass. The tests do not accurately test knowledge needed for special education which is the field I am teaching. North Carolina will be losing lots of great teachers for not passing a test. It is also expensive to continue taking these test, it’s more of a “business agreement” than to produce better teachers.

Exactly! I teach 3rd grade standards and I am becoming more efficient each and every year I teach them. Test scores do not define me or my ability to reach children.

NC is in dire need of teachers, but the State Board has made it nearly impossible to get a license. These exams are very expensive and the workshops are 150.00 each to help prepare for the exams and still, teachers are not passing them. I will no longer have a license as of June 30th due to testing requirements. I had a 4.0 at ECU through the NC TEACH program, passed my Special Education Praxis II with a score that listed me as "highly qualified". I teach Special Education and it is ridiculous that we have to take these tests. I will never teach the math or multi-subject material that is covered on these tests. NC needs good teachers, but these tests are not the answer.

Mrs. Wigge is a wonderful teacher. She knows the best way to teach is to first lather students know it is a safe place to learn in her classroom.

I agree this test can not measure a teachers teaching ability. If anything gear the test toward the grade level I am teaching. NC do you wamt good teachers or a good test score?
