Carol Leonard: I am a Past President of MANA (I was elected as second president in 1986). I have been very concerned about MANA's viability and sustainability for a while now. MANA's leadership seems to be veering dangerously close to circling the drain. I think new leadership should be elected to get her back on track and in alignment with our original intentions...to represent ALL midwives. We have come sooo far since the mid-1970s...it's a travesty that now there is all this infighting.

Brenda Hinton: Internationally, maternity care consumers express a high level of satisfaction with autonomously practising midwives. Midwifery serves woman and their families, pregnant and birthing women do not want or need doctors of osteopathy deciding what constitutes best care for us. Over 90% of birthing women in New Zealand choose full continuity of care from an independent midwife and the outcomes here are as good as anywhere in the world.

Ashly Kowalski: I hope MANA understands the urgent need to remove dr bennett from the Midwifery movement. Her statements are not only unsubstantiated, but harmful to the image of Midwifery as a whole. She is neither a advocate/representative for midwives nor for her pregnant patients.

Alexandra Rounds LM CPM: Dr. Bennett does not represent the interests of midwives nor midwifery clients. Given her perspective, MANA never should have allowed her a position of power within the organization. Bennett's statements are dangerous to the practice of midwifery and birthing people.

Any CPM or CNM that have ever practiced knows what an awful obstacle waiting for physician supervision has been historically. The president of MANA should not be taking this public stance with every state in the US in conflict about Midwifery laws.
