musicians/owners of SONAR should file a class action lawsuit for being sold a lifetime license to SONAR while Gibson planned to destroy Cakewalk. #SAVECAKEWALK

Good info. A company like Gibson don't give anything away. They don't let down an opportunity to make cash. Cakewalk is worth money. And just letting that money rot away isn’t good busyness. I believe there is a deal behind the curtains with Microsoft. At least that makes sense. Microsoft has been very close too Cakewalk in the last years. Microsoft is hiring coders and technicians for DAW work. But Microsoft isn’t saying anything ether!
It might be that Microsoft has bought the code base, and wants to rebrand Sonar and Music Creator to their own suite like Office but for music and film.
That’s really what this petition is al about. Ether way of what this is, we need Microsoft to rescue us users so we don’t sit with projects with no future!

Do not let it die, please. So much effort has been spent, so much has been done, many people around the world use it to create music. 30 years of development and success, you can not just throw it away and watch it die. Please save it!

THE REAL STORY
This is my theory, but I think that it makes a lot of sense. Not really a conspiracy theory or anything, just my take on what's happened based on my own experience in the private sector and bring privy to some high-level tactical discussions there.
Gibson had his thing orchestrated before they even bought Cakewalk from Roland. But we need to go back to even before that to see the seminal spark of this idea.
Gibson has killed a DAW software company once before. Oh yes.In 1998, Gibson bought Opcode Vision only to end development of it about one year later (sound familiar?)
Gibson invariably did a post-mortem on the Opcode loss to make better decisions in the future. In this process they probably figured out that they could have made gobs of money off of the existing user base by selling big things (firesales on all premium products, lifetime updates and new software for free) just before they shut down the business. They ALSO figured out that if they had decided to get rid of Opcode sooner, they could have SOLD them to another company and reaped additional cash that way.
Here's the structure I think that they came up with:
1 Find a software company that has a strong, loyal user base that has been around for awhile (the longer the better).
2 Make sure that the cost to that user base to lose the software and have to learn and implement a new system would be PAINFULLY high (as is the case in sophisticated software such as DAW, CAD, CGI and video rendering systems, engineering analysis like FEA and CFD systems, etc.).
3 Also ensure that users have an *emotional* attachment to the software. This will be evident in active user communities, well-known and high visibility power users offering unsolicited praise for the product, and a strong line of communication between the development team and the user base.
4 Buy such a software company and immediately do two things:

This program is seriously one of the best, if not the best end-to-end DAWs on the market. The solutions and functions it provides from the beginning to end are incredibly strong. It's a valuable product and should be saved!

Please help save Cakewalk. It has all the capabilities of much more expensive software, and is very easy for content creators to get up and running on.
