This petition is to call for the immediate release of Engr. Mosharraf Hossain.
On 25th of February 2007, Engr. Mosharraf Hossain, a senior Political Leader of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) was arrested arbitrarily by the Joint Forces under the Special Power Act (SPA) of Emergency Rule of the Military backed Care Taker Government of Bangladesh (CTG) in front of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in Dhaka.
Engr. Mosharraf, a valiant Freedom Fighter of 1971 Liberation War, staged movements against the immediate past 4 Party Alliance government that was plagued with corruption, nepotism, terrorism and oppression. Due to his stance for democracy and fight against corruption he was implicated in false charges by the past BNP/ Jamaat led Government. Throughout his 40 years of political career Engr. Mosharraf Hossain upheld democracy, integrity and transparency.
Till today he is detained under the SPA without any conviction. After two months of hearing, on 30th of May 2007, the High Court gave an order to free Engr. Mosharraf Hossain declaring his detention illegal. However, the CTG got stay order from the Supreme Court against the Hight Court ruling.
This petition is to appeal to the Government of Bangladesh to immediately release Engr. Mosharraf from detention. It also calls to International Community and Human Rights groups to protect the political and civil rights of politicians like Engr. Mosharraf Hossain in Bangladesh who are detained without conviction.
Seeing this keep building up is actually overwhelming because I honestly wondered if anyone else was still thinking about this injustice after all these months. It feels like the tide is finally turning when I read your messages and realize I am not the only one who sees how wrong this detention is. We need to keep pushing because the weight of this support might actually force them to listen.

These false charges are just a way to shut him up. He fought for the country in 71 and this is how they treat him. Disgusting.
