Metal Detectors for Buford City Schools

BCSS Families,
Our names are Kristen, Katie, Jennifer and Ashley. We are Buford parents and volunteer Buford youth sports coaches. We love the kids of this community and pray daily for their happiness, health and safety.
The events on September 4, 2024 at Apalachee High School, Robb Elementary on May 24, 2022, Parkland High on February 14, 2018 and so many others are heartbreaking and horrifying.
This should not happen anywhere, ever again.
We REFUSE to sit by and not try our damn hardest to make an impact for our children.
So, what can we do, even if just in our small community? We can ask for metal detectors. We can demand it.
Is it perfect, no. But is it something, yes. It's another deterrent, it's another catch to stop a weapon before it makes its way inside to our precious babies.
We are no experts but we will engage experts for quotes and work with the school if there's enough support. Metal detectors for schools seem to run about $4,000 each. If each building has two main entrances, 5 buildings, this is $40,000 in costs of detectors. Considering labor and maintenance/support, let's say we need $500,000 to get this implemented. We will firm up these numbers by getting details from security companies.
We raise so much money in this community. We are building a $60 million stadium for the kids. Surely we can make this relatively small change that could have a huge, life saving impact.
