Thank you for organizing this. Traffic is heavier and faster. It's time to address it and find traffic-slowing solutions.

I'd be interested to see what the numbers were for the "car counters" before the closing of Harrington and after. It didn't make sense to me that they counted the both times before the start of school when the traffic was light. Just about all our streets are affected by cut-through traffic but the Hayes/Meriam one is particularly dangerous. I'm not a fan of speed bumps but I think the four way stop is crucial.

I absolutely agree that something has to be done to control the speed of traffic on Meriam Street

Absolutely agree. Safety of the children walking/biking to/from Diamond and Fiske is very important.

Intersection at Merriam & Hayes very dangerous for children walking home from Fiske. There are always construction and lawn care vehicles blocking visibility and drivers speeding down the hill over speed limit. A tragedy waiting to happen!

Thanks for raising this serious issue- a major accident is forthcoming if changes are not made...

On 6/22 I was crossing Meriam on Hayes (coming from Woodland) and realized that with several trucks parked on Meriam between Hayes and York, I could not check for oncoming traffic without walking fairly far into the road. This would be dangerous for children to have to do in order to cross on their way from school. A four-way stop might help with this -- if drivers of cars coming over the hill on meriam could be sure of seeing the stop sign when trucks are parked there. As an aside, I don't think any of the proposals suggested for the intersections of Meriam with Hayes or Somerset would improve safety where we live near corner with stetson, yet there are school bus stops all along Meriam between somerset and Patriots Dr.

Cars go 50 mph. It can be terrifying.

Yes. speed humps should be an effective and inexpensive way to lessen the problem.

Yes, to all of the above! There are several danger spots along Meriam Street, and Adams Street.

Great need for reduction of traffic speed on Meriam Street and sidewalks for all residents in this area to encourage walking/riding to school, pet walkers, etc.

Meriam street has become a speedway of driving & texting parents and teens alike . The cut through traffic shows a complete disregard for the safety of children in our neighborhood. This problem will only be exacerbated with the proposed traffic rerouting.

We are at Meriam and Hayes and this intersection is getting dangerous as more and more cars are increasingly speeding up and down Meriam st especially at commuting time. In fact, we witnessed a car accident last year when a car did a rolling stop at the Hayes stop sign... We do not let our kids play ball on our front lawn anymore. Why would the town not install a 4-way stop or a speed bump? Wait till we have a bad accident?

Cars are cutting through Meriam Street off of 128 during commuting time. It is a mess and it is only a matter of time before a child gets struck by someone who is too busy to think. Doug Ready
