It only makes sense to me to merge the Horry County Police into the Horry County Sheriff's Dept.

If you feel this way, why don't you state who you are ?

I think that keeping the departments separate will have it to where the officers will probably remain. Doing a merge will cause more officers to find other departments or agencies to work for. Leave it the way it currently is.

As a resident served by the Horry County Sheriff's Department and the Horry County Police, it's time to merge the departments back into one. This will create a department that will be more efficient and less costly to the taxpayers.

I no longer reside in Horry County, but it is my home and my roots run deep there and this decision has been a long time coming to do the merger. Just because I don't live there doesn't mean I don't possess property and interest there. I read the comments from a County Council member who advised that the positive points is that if a person is elected sheriff it takes 4 years to remove the individual if they are undeserving of the position. Well I say the same thing about any County Councilman who has been elected and needs to be voted out! Too much power in County Council hands. Always has been. Put it back in the hands of the people with a vote. It's been 50 years and it's no knee jerk reaction cause it's been a half a decade for the decision to have already been made. Who knows I might come back home and run for it one day myself!

ok, in Horry County the police work the roads, have detectives, handle calls for crimes, school resource officers, the airports with TSA, beach patrol, etc. The Sheriff handles the jail, court security, serve warrants, serves papers, etc. IN SC the Sheriff's do all of that as one law enforcement agency NOT TWO ! Get it ? The Horry County system need only be 1. The Sheriff. Time to merge under one umbrella and operate as it should.

I choose Philip Thompson /Horry County Sheriff,to merge the Horry County Police Department with the Horry County Sheriff's Department,as one Department not Two. It's time for a change.Sheriff Philip Thompson does an excellent Job,and Chief Saundra Rhodes is Leaving her job as chief,so it's time to move forward with this merger and become the Horry County Sheriff's Department

It's time. Horry County no longer needs two separate departments. Sheriff Thompson does an outstanding job. Now that Chief Rhodes is leaving let's combine the departments and move forward like the progressive County we are.
End corruption
