Sasha Ruseva is the impoverished Bulgarian mother who is desparate to be reunited with her 4 year old daughter Maria, who has been living in Greece since Sasha was too poor to care for her. The Greek authorities have not been sympathetic to her, accusing her of selling her 'for money', which she denies. But even if she did sell her for money, how could anyone blame her when she and her remaining children in Bulgaria are living in such extreme poverty? They have a tiny shack and live on the barest minimum of food. Sasha is painfully thin and looks much older than her 35 years, after starving herself for so long just to feed her hungry children. Wake up, Europe! This is a family living in desparation. They are not 'benefit-cheats' like some families in the UK are said to be, these Roma gypsies are genuinely struggling for survival. They do not even have access to running water or sanitation - and yet so-called 'civilised' Westerners are unwilling to help! Why is this? THE most important thing a child needs is LOVE, and her family truly seem to love her. They wanted her to survive, rather than dying in their arms from starvation. We believe they should return Maria to her natural parents, and also provide them with financial assistance so they can take better care of them all.
