Dogs are trained to recognise condition changes and also assist the handler with tasks.
Mental Health patients suffer in silence and sometimes dont even speak to friends and family about their conditions. Mental Health is NOT all in the mind as some people think and is as disabling as a physical disability.
These trained dogs will turn sufferers lives around and give them focus and control of their illness and give them a friend who will never let them down. We aim to be able in the futre to take on dogs and have them puppy walked and assisgned to suffers on a waiting list as well as training the clients dog that they have already if it meets suitability tests.
Please sign to show your support for the Mental Health Assistance Dogs Programme, which has been set up to provide training and dogs matched to owners who have been refered for the purpose of an assistance dog by mental health doctors.
It has taken me approx 7 years to get where we are with the help of some good friends and also my dogs, and by adding your signature to the list you are backing me and my team to progress forward and reach our goals in the future.

I would like to train my dog to be an assist dog. As a mental health sufferer being able to take my dog everywhere would improve my life. I cannot go shopping alone due to panic attacks but my dog keeps me calm. There is not enough support for mental health sufferers.
Being able to train my dog to be a recognised assistance dog would be life changing for me. It would enable me to gain more confidence and be more independent. Frankly I find it shocking that the UK is so far behind as dogs have been used to aid health and wellbeing throughout history.
I currently rely on my parents to get out of bed in the morning let alone cope with working on my PhD. A registered assistance dog would help me to cope with my anxieties about the world and it would free up my parents so they could work normal hours again.
Only just found this web site I give it 100% support we have Had to train our own labradoodle for my partner who has post traumatic stress disorder with help from a army dog trainer who also suffers from the same problem our problem is how to get the dog recognised as a trained assistance dog
When I found out that Psychiatric Assistance dogs existed I finally thought there was something that might help me, I had hope that I could get support. Sadly, living in the UK I cannot get this support, maybe this would be less bad if there was any replacement service that worked!

Not enough is being done for this cause. Getting my dog meant I could finally leave my house, for the first time since I can't remember. The fact he is not seen as an assistant dog means he can't come with me when I need him the most.
