We the undersigned are therefore writing to you to request that you, the elected members of our elected parliament, insist on parliament's immediate voting on :

1. whether article 50 should be invoked as a result of the recent EU referendum , or not

2. whether a second referendum be held on the matter of leaving or remaining, requiring a majority of at least 60 per cent of a 75 per cent turnout, subject to a further vote in parliament.

I would furthermore ask you to insist that any new referendum on EU Membership include the right to vote of 16 and seventeen year olds as well as Uk citizens who have been living abroad for more than 15 years.

We further request that:

3. That a general election be held immediately if parliament be not allowed to vote on the above.

The authority of our sovereign parliament will be severely undermined if article 50 be invoked without it having a say in the matter through a free vote of all UK MP's. The referendum result alone cannot be respected as having legal force in a parliamentary democracy.

Please insist therefore that it is unacceptable that its very marginal result be used for such major constitutional change affecting long established EU citizenship rights of UK citizens.

Please also insist that a change of PM by the Tory party , without a general election, given the major constitutional issues facing his/ her government , is an unacceptable way to proceed.

Please insist that our parliament as a whole , and not just factions within parties, now act as the elected voice to hold our dangerously divided nation together.

We ask you unequivocally to protect our rights of EU citizenship , as well as the authority of the parliament we elect .

We would ask you therefore to request that there be a general election were the present government to press ahead with invoking article 50 without the approval of a majority in parliament.
