The DDSO Rec programs funding has been cut, this has had an extreme negative effect on many individuals’ lives. My name is Megan and these Rec programs are some of the best parts of my week, and my life, they have given me a sense of belonging. I bowl on Thursdays with other people that are apart of these programs, I have developed friendships and we are our own community, I also have gained confidence from becoming good at bowling, I once scored a 250. I no longer am able to socialize on Thursdays with my friends at bowling, because of these budget cuts. I am also affected by choir practices being cut, I have become addicted to choir and it has been a therapeutic and profoundly positive experience for me which has helped me build my self esteem and social skills. There is a Halloween dance, turkey trot, Christmas dance, Saint Patrick’s day dance, Valentine’s day dance and a New Years dance that are all in jeopardy of being cut. I look forward to these dances for months; and I get to show off my dance moves. I know other people are affected negatively by losing these programs; let’s use our power to get these programs back.
