The City of Mobile, Alabama has spent half a million dollars since 2016 to prevent a small Buddhist Meditation Center from relocating to a quiet community. In 2015 the Mediation Center owner's were denied a planning commission approval to build two small religious facilities on their properly zoned seven acre property for the purpose of holding weekly meditation meetings. In May of 2016, the City of Mobile added injustice to discrimination by issuing a court order prohibiting the Mediation Center's director and family from holding meditation gatherings in their existing residential home on their private property. That's $500,000 in Mobile City Tax dollars. Two weeks ago on May 24th, 2019, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Alabama, Terry Moorer, upheld the City of Mobile's position of religious discrimination and injustice with his recent decision against the Meditation Center of Alabama and the Nimityongskul family. WE WHOLEHEARTEDLY DISAGREE WITH HIS DECISION.

One hundred people have spoken up against the City of Mobile and their shameful waste of tax dollars to stop a family from praying. This is a pathetic abuse of power by the city and we are just getting started.

As Jews, my family has experienced what religious persecution looks like and feels like... and what the city of Mobile is doing to the Buddhist community is just that... an attack on religious freedom!
The Meditation Center of Alabama is an important resource for a vibrant and healthy community. They should have full religious rights and the Nimityongskul family should have full private property rights.
This is plainly discrimination, and truly such a shame considering that most of the people opposed to such an institution could benefit so greatly from learning about their philosophy.
There are at least 165 places of worship in Mobile. I cannot fathom why there is this much of an issue with people of a different spiritual practice providing a place for said practices on their own property. Let the people who make the center a reality continue this good work as they see fit.
Meditation is like prayer to the Buddhists. It serves a similar purpose. So, by denying a right to congregate in their private home, this means no private home could conduct prayer meetings in THEIR home. Oh, but wait.....that violates the Constitution.

Because it’s 2020 and it hurts no one to let ppl practice their faith in the way of their choosing. Mobile get with the times and be kind.

As a Catholic who practices yoga and meditation and studies the principles of Buddhism and was raised here in Mobile I humbly ask that MCA be granted the right to assemble on this property.
