The state and county officials have let him down. They could have done more prior to his last arrest to help him. He was pushed to the side and overlooked. Then put in prison so they didn’t have to see or deal with the choices they made.

There is no reason this man's cognitive impairments and decline along with his medical conditions are not grounds for his release. Especially considering the time he has already served. There are alternatives to incarceration that focus more on rehabilitation and reform opposed to "lock 'em up and throw away the key" Draconian laws.
