Medial Benefits for "Veterans" Injured in the Line of Duty Prior to 90 days of Conintuous Active Duty
Men and women in the armed forces who are seriously injured in the line of duty prior to completing 90 days of continuous active duty are denied medical treatment for their injuries. In some cases, such as mine, the injury is the stated reason for termination of a midshipman appointment and an involuntary Honorable discharge from enlisted status. Although I have about 200 days of active duty, the 90 day continuous active duty requirement leads to the lack of a DD214. The DD214 is the document that qualifies one for veteran's benefits, including treatment of injuries incurred while on active duty in the armed forces Although this petition is based on my personal experience the purpose of the petition is to seek correction for this shameful practice of denying medical treatment for serious armed forces injuries for future service members.
