McDonald's is one of the largest fast-food chains in the world. This means that there are more customers and more customers, equals more waste. Many of the McDonald's locations across Canada, have multiple bins, used for consumers to separate their waste into either trash or recycling. The restaurant does this to trick consumers into believing that they recycle because at the end of the day, the bags filled with separated waste, all end up in the same bin. McDonald's disposes of these bags, by dumping them into the same garbage bin outside.

McDonald's claims, that they are not able to recycle a majority of their waste because it is difficult to recycle items with food residue on them however, if you take a look at other companies such as Starbucks and Tim Horton's, they have seemed to manage this issue just fine.

McDonald's goal is to recycle 50% of their waste by 2020. This fact that not even 50% of McDonald's waste is currently being recycled, is an alarming fact. This poses as a major problem to the environment if you look at the relationship between waste not being recycled and the # of customers that visit a McDonald's location per day/month/year.

It's time to put an end to this.
