As a former MCPS student I got ~4.5hrs of sleep each weeknight, I can't believe how little progress has been made in the past 15 years. It scarred me so much that I still believe it's the most important issue facing our students today.

Long overdue! Early start time has been disastrous for my teens’ ability to self-regulate their emotional health.

It is essential that MCPS prioritize this issue. It’s time to stop paying lip service to mental and physical health of students and start taking meaningful action.

We need to take this opportunity to get off of the no longer relevant farm schedule and prepare our new citizens for American worklife culture which runs 9-4, adding an hour on each end for travel. The school day should conclude at 4 p.m. with an option for other activities, including sports, during the last hour or two.

Please let science drive your decisions for the good of the students.

The science also says younger students are more available for learning earlier. Teaching little ones till 4pm in the afternoon is developmentally inappropriate!

My daughter is about to go to high school and I believe a later schedule would benefit her health and the health of other students.

So many benefits to appropriate sleep for kids, a no brainer.

I've been voting for this every time it comes up. My middle and high school kids are both constantly exhausted.

A later start time would greatly improve my children's relationship with school and help them start their day with a better attitude - ready to learn!

Adequate sleep is necessary for brain recovery, physical recovery and cellular regeneration. Sleep Deprivation becomes a compounding issue; I've experienced this during my decade as a Naval Officer, who routinely stood overnight watches staring out at the ocean. If the first step to recovery is sleep, I advocate for sleep.. to improve academic and physical fitness performance.

It is absolutely ridiculous that students are expected to get up this early considering the amount of homework we receive that causes us to stay up later and the extracurricular activities we are pushed to do.
