The language has officially been removed from the handbook. This is entirely due to the courage of those who signed and spoke up because I truly never imagined we would see this change happen.
Mississippi College\'s current student policy banning \"homosexual activities\" is discriminatory towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. It creates an unfair disparity in treatment between heterosexual and homosexual students and perpetuates a homophobic environment where LGBT students and their allies are fearful of living open and honest lives.
We believe that all students, regardless of their sexual orientation, deserve to be treated fairly, equally, and with dignity and respect. The current policy, and the manner in which it is enforced, confuse sexual orientation with sexual acts. Accordingly, we recommend that Mississippi College amend its student policy to remove any reference to \"homosexual activities\".
Current policy:
\"Sexual impropriety includes but is not limited to participation in or appearance of engaging in premarital sex, extramarital sex or homosexual activities.\"
Suggested policy:
\"All students should live their lives with integrity and refrain from sexual impropriety. Sexual impropriety includes, but is not limited to, participation or appearance of engaging in premarital or extramarital sex\".
I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have joined this effort. This momentum belongs entirely to you and I never imagined this would find such a powerful response.

I hope they listen because no student should feel unsafe just for being who they are.
