I currently partner with PCL to provide an early childhood music program at 3 branches for children ages 0-5 and their adults. I am extremely fortunate to have a grant through RISCA to be able to do this. But of the branches I am at, none of them are open to the general public during the time I am there. People have to knock on the door and be let in by library staff to attend. And, when people learn about my program but then Google for directions to the library if they don’t live in the neighborhood, they get confused because they see the library is closed. More hours open at the library for me would mean greater access for young children and their adults to a program like mine and others at PCL that promote early literacy and other aspects of child development and a sense of community among patrons.
It is incredibly surprising to me that our Providence libraries are not open for longer hours nor are the times they are open consistent across all branches. When you go into other communities in this state, the libraries are open full-time hours. Why not PVD?

Libraries are so important in all communities. Expanded hours would create more opportunities for education and community building

Please help our neighbors by having the Providence Community Libraries open evenings and weekends!
If the City and State truly support improved educational opportunities for students, this is an affirmative way to show that support.

Libraries are so important to communities. I was surprised when I moved here that my local library doesn't open until 1 some days and is not open at all on Sundays. Please provide more funding to extend library hours!

Our school libraries are often not accessible because of library classes and librarians being assigned to other duties. That's one reason to extend community library hours for our students.
