Maya Mourani- Petition for SBA President

If I said it feels like just yesterday when I was running for 1L class president, I’d be lying. The truth is, it feels like forever ago. I've grown, evolved, and transformed in ways I couldn't have imagined I would when I started this journey. As the SBA secretary, I’d be lying if I said that the role was just a side job for me. From the planned BOG meeting at 1 pm to the unplanned phone calls with current president Christin that lasted until 1 am, this role has consumed my time, efforts, and focus, pushing me to both adapt and evolve as a leader. Most importantly, I'd be lying if I didn't say I’ve loved every single second of serving you in each position.
Serving as your SBA Executive Secretary has shown me what it means to lead to serve. My role as secretary has challenged me to be more organized, think more critically and has taught me incredible lessons about leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. These experiences have shaped me into a passionate, dedicated, and committed leader that is ready to further serve the needs and interests of our law school. Now thanks to your faith and belief in me and my abilities to function in these roles I am prepared and excited to take on the role of SBA Executive President and continue this journey of leadership.
Your trust and belief in me in these roles has given me a platform that allows me to take each of your needs and execute them creatively and effectively. This year I was given the opportunity to be heavily involved in the planning and execution of events like the Barrister’s Ball, the Wellness Fair, and various other SBA events. From brainstorming themes to decorating the Roostertail, I had the pleasure of ensuring this years Barrister’s was memorable and enjoyable for all students. What you may have seen as a magazine cover photoshoot frame, I saw as a realization of students' desire for something different, something unforgettable.
I was able to marry my creativity and student needs again when it came to organizing the wellness fair. While you may have seen free manicures, facials, and dental checkups, I saw our student population's need for prioritizing self-care being met. It's the process of listening to your requests and complaints and turning them into effective answers and creative solutions that fuels my passion for this role.
As your SBA President I hope to transform your ideas into action, your needs into haves, and your requests into answers. What drives me isn't just the result—it's the entire process. It's listening to your feedback, your suggestions, and your concerns, and channeling them into active change. I hope to further a sense of being heard within our community.
Thank you all for allowing me to evolve my passion for this position into the skills necessary to confidently serve as your SBA president. If elected President, I hope I can return the faith and trust you all have poured into me, as I will continue serving my peers. I love being not only an advocate for my class, but for our student body because we are a family. Still, I hope you allow me to enjoy serving for one more year. Thank you for your consideration of me and I look forward to sharing my ideas for next year and further explaining my platform at the Candidate Fair on March 26th.
