This petition is for all of the area where Maui’s dolphins and Hector’s dolphins live that is under 100 meters deep to be banned from being fished in with nets.
It is estimated that 23 Hector’s dolphins die in commercial net fishing every year. That is an amazingly high number for a species that only has about 8000 individuals alive. And although less Maui’s dolphins get caught up, there is only 55 Maui’s dolphins remaining.
