as an associate pastor (in LA's eastside where 50% of our residents are immigrants) who is responsible for studying, practicing, and teaching God's word, I am convinced that the overall tenor of scripture would favor mercy over judgement as it regards the immigrant (Levitcus 19:34, Exodus 23:9, Isaiah 16:3, Isaiah 49:6-7, Ruth 1:15-17, Matthew 2:13-15, Matthew 25:34-40, Ephesians 2:12, and Hebrews 13:2 to name a few). As those made in the image of God, it is our responsibility to love our neighbors in our communities (no matter how different) as we would ourselves.
