Research must not be stopped in any area. Pure Mathematics is the beginning of the Applied. Please, understand that it is not only a matter of jobs, which are vital for those who may lose them,
but a matter of developing the future.

Mathematics has an exclusive place in science. The proposed plans are devastating, short-sighted and undoubtendly will cause damage to the reputation of the university. I urge to abandon this plan!

Advanced theoretical research is the basis for applied math and essential for the humanist aims that are the core of higher education. Eliminating pure mathematics would greatly reduce the relevance and status of the University of Leicester, as well as having a broader negative impact on education and true excellence.
