Complaint regarding the Mathematics Exam

Dear Dr Catón, Dr Görg and Ms Plattner,

After a great first semester at Frankfurt School with no real problems, we encountered a sizeable drawback. The Mathematics Exam on the 15th of December.

Herewith the Banking and Finance course would like to issue a formal complaint about the past Mathematics exam.

Numerous fellow students have prepared very intensively for the exam with the conviction that it will be on the same level of difficulty as the mock exams. Whether from the online campus or from Mr Ilhan. In addition to that Mr Ilhan said that if we master his mock exam, we should not have any trouble with the actual one. This was not the case. The actual exam was a lot harder.

A few examples:

• The Lagrange exercise was irritating because one of the solutions was y=0. However, there was a restriction: x, y > 0, which would discard the solution mentioned above.

• The limits, series and matrices exercises contained two variables. A property for which we were not prepared, as we had experience with only one variable in these contexts.

Many students were very disappointed, especially after all the effort. We hope that with this complaint the problem will be addressed in a fair way.
