Hello all!
MaST is a valuable resource for all students, which is used on a daily basis. The MaST area is a welcoming environment that encourages and aids students to succeed in their studies.
This petition is for the upgrade of the resources that helps MaST and the UMKC students to succeed, including: seating, tables and whiteboards.
Here are key things we are hoping to get from this petition:
----More whiteboards, while also updating the whiteboards we currently have (most have broken wheels)
----More comfortable chairs that better suite the time spent studying in this area
----More tables that allow for large groups of students to study or receive tutoring together
----More extension cords or tables that have built in plug-ins. There is currently limited outlets, which make the use of laptops in the space difficult

UMKC needs to invest more in its students' learning needs. At MU-Columbia, this was more a priority, and welcome tours went through a student success center where tutoring was held.
No one even told me about this until I found it one day when I got lost in the library. THIS NEEDS TO BE KNOWN. Students need to know that they have access to help and tutoring.
Chairs are breaking, white board wheels are missing. Need computers for students, maybe printer. Need a bigger sign to welcome new students. Should have events to help people at least visit the center during tours.
I come to the tutoring lab quite often and having better white boards would benefit everyone.
As a former tutor and a student who currently still uses services here, i know the tutoring center is incredibly important to so many people in the Kansas City community, not even just to our own student population. Resources like better and more whiteboards would be a good start to help improve the quality of the learning space here and this is a worthwhile petition to back.

The entirety of the center is a welcoming environment where students need to feel comfortable furthering their education goals and experiences. The welcoming feeling can only go so far when students and tutors do not have the necessary resources to efficiently work.
