Boulder County voters passed 1A to develop a comprehensive strategic approach to wildfire mitigation. A project based approach does not serve the people who passed and will pay for this measure!

As the Firewise leader in our Lake of the Pines community, I understand the complexity of the wildfire mitigation issue, and I know that goals and progress are likely long-term projects that require intentional and coordinated efforts.

In the several months after the Marshall Fire, four other fires prompted evacuations in Boulder County. A comprehensive plan is needed to connect the dots and keep Boulder County inhabitable and safe as climate change increases severe events.

Mitigation, vegetation management - AND establish a Countywide "Community Cistern Fund" so fire districts could apply for grants to install emergency water in areas where water supply is inadequate - and be a leader in forming partnerships and collaboration that supports our communities!

We're so grateful for the work of the firefighters and other first responders, it really made a difference in our neighborhood. But when I read the accounts of how dangerous and confusing it was for them, I hope we can do better by them in future with planning, communication, etc.

Fire hydrants that have water. Ditches that are clear of burnable debris. Vegetation management. Effective alert systems. Not rocket science; it just needs to get done!

Brush mowing open space boundaries close in to suburban areas is a top priority. I have priced out quotes for concrete Allan Block fencing that can protect suburban homes from grassfires. It can't burn and is an effective wind and fire break. Approximately 1 million dollars installed per linear mile of fencing at 8ft in height.

We need real wildfire mitigation in the open spaces in Boulder County! This threat will only get worse going forward.

Climate change will increase the intensity of wildfire risk in the future. Investments and action we take today will make a difference the next time this happens.

We can’t afford to keep the current minimalist approach to mitigation; it’s asking for another Marshall fire situation. We know we live with high winds and climate patterns are changing. We have seen multiple fires in the county the past several years. It’s time to adjust our current approach.

We need a comprehensive and consolidated plan. We are rebuilding and are terrified that this could happen again, but this time, with the loss of lives. Ours.

The Fire Survivor community demands a comprehensive plan that involves all public safety departments to come together and start from the top. Alerts, evacuation routes, public education, grasses and ditch mitigation, landscape & building info, and the pursuit of grants, all need attention and should be in the hierarchy of projects.

Lost my house to the Marshall Fire. First houses to burn in Coal Creek Ranch-South were on Troon Court just before 2 due to the open space between Avista Hospital and our neighborhood not being fire mitigated. And still is not despite three houses are left standing, two next to that open space.
