We petition the American media companies to enact a policy to the effect that they will not publish the names of mass shooters (unless they are at-large) thus denying them the fame they crave.
Mass shootings have become sadly commonplace. Most end in the suicide of the shooter. In the past suicides took only one life, but now narcissistic sociopaths can become posthumously famous by taking as many innocent lives with them as possible. We as a culture must take a stand to make it clear that we will no longer allow them that fame. Mass shooters are not celebrities. We ask that the media deliberately deny them celebrity status.
We petition all media outlets to this effect but specifically ask that The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journel, LA Times, Houston Chronicle, and USA Today lead the newspapers in this country in enacting such a policy.
We specifically petition CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and BBC America to enact such a policy and we petition all media outlets and citizens alike to make a deliberate effort to systematically deny celebrity status to mass shooters and to make their victims famous instead.
Stop giving these monsters the attention they want. It just inspires the next loser to go out and do the same thing. Focus on the victims and leave the killers name in the trash where it belongs.
