Single Delegate District for Mason County
To: Governor of West Virginia,
Richard Thompson, Speaker of the West Virginia House of Delegates
Honorable Members of the West Virginia House of Delegates
Petition for Single Delegate District for Mason County
Dear Governor, Speaker Thompson and Members of the House of Delegates:
We, the Undersigned, are concerned about the lack of representation in the House of Delegates for the people of Mason County. There has not been a Delegate from Mason County for decades. This lack of representation has been caused by Mason County having been divided into two Districts. That division has left Mason County the minority in both Districts and makes it virtually impossible for there to ever be a representative from Mason County. Further, as it is anticipated that Mason County will continue to have more than 25,000 residents when the new Census results are announced, it will also continue to be the largest County with no Delegate. In fact, out of the 55 counties in West Virginia, there are only 9 that do not have a Delegate from their county. Based on population, there are over 20 counties smaller than Mason County that have their own Delegate.
We, the Undersigned West Virginians, therefore, respectfully request that when the legislature redistricts for the House of Delegates after the 2010 Census results are received, you ensure the people of Mason County are finally granted their Constitutional right to have taxation with representation by guaranteeing that Mason County is given a single delegate district.
Sincerely,
