Its 2015 so let’s start this year with a bang and get Marley's Mutts on TV!
So many of you have wanted to engage your commitment to our organization by coming up with ideas to spread the word about Marley's Mutts far and wide. Our Mutt Militia is absolutely the BEST! You are an amazing group of loyal followers, who are now over 250,000 strong and growing daily. Your passion helps to continue the mission that Zach and Marley’s Mutts have created.
Hooch and Zach’s stories are awe-inspiring.
Hooch, the original “Miracle Mutt”, currently works with special needs children and a large cross section of those living with disabilities. He spends his days with a huge grin on his gorgeous face, teaching compassion, inspiration and positivity, as only a gentle spirit like he can. His complete lack of fear or resentment toward human beings teaches everyone he encounters about love and forgiveness. All of this after coming from a horrific past.
Languishing in a shelter for over a month when Zach first came upon him, he was 35 pounds underweight. He wouldn't eat or drink and when taken to the vet, is was discovered that his tongue had been savagely removed at its base, more than likely for the future “success” in the dog-fighting arena.
After ripping out his feeding tube, everyone struggled
to find another way to help him. Running
out of ideas, we simply began placing moistened kibble in his mouth and, with a
little help from gravity, down the hatch it went! Hooch has taught himself to
suck up water, using his snaggle-tooth-under-bite to supplement an impressive
slurping mechanism. Hooch’s pride is all
over his face (well, and his signature drool).
Zach, another “Miracle Mutt”, was diagnosed with end stage liver disease in July of 2008 and was then admitted into the Comprehensive Transplant Program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He didn't care much about what that meant, he only cared about being able to continue living day to day as he had been—constantly numb with the help of alcohol and drugs. His inebriated state was his baseline—this was his normal, and a necessity to his everyday life. He needed it to be able to drive, to work, and to interact with other people, especially if those other people were new faces. Without it, he was vulnerable and scared—and felt worthless. And when faced with the fact that his time was up, he was told that without getting stronger, not to mention sober, he wasn't eligible for a transplant. He had truly reached a dead-end.
Faced with this, he went home and crawled under
the covers. But his dogs, Marley &
Tug, wouldn’t allow that…they got him out of bed and more importantly, outside
of his head. A few steps turned into many steps, short sprints turned into
marathons. Zach was back, sober and eternally grateful to the dogs that gave
him hope and saved his life. While he will always be in Cedar’s Comprehensive
Transplant Program, he has not needed that transplant and his life’s purpose
has become rescuing dogs that are viewed as he saw himself…a throwaway,
worthless and unwanted.And
he hasn't stopped since.
Hooch and Zach need to tell their story…on as many
talk shows as possible. These appearances
will show the world about what Marley's Mutts is all about…ultimately how to
move forward with love, perseverance and positivity. Have you seen any better role models than
these 2? Both
of them are fulfilling their destinies…as ambassadors for of all that is good
and right in the world.
So let's do it everyone...let's get the Mutt
