Mark Groenendyk Needs to Resign as Supervisor After Pleading Guilty to Assault
Mark Groenendyk has pleaded guilty to assault of his 18 year old son; his son told the sheriff's department that his father punched him in the chest and repeatedly slammed his head against the wall. Groenendyk was arrested and charged for this in February. In March, Groenendyk violated the no contact order that was part of the original charge and was arrested again. Groenendyk has now received a plea deal with deferred judgment on these charges, meaning that if he completes the one year of probation this won't even show as a conviction on his record.
Groenendyk holds the elected role of County Supervisor of Mahaska County, Iowa. With assaulting his own family member and knowingly violating a no contact order, he has shown a lack of judgment and integrity that renders him unfit for public office.
Since the legal system is not holding Groenendyk accountable, it is up to the citizens of Mahaska County to demand that he resign immediately. Is this the kind of person we want controlling millions of dollars and making key decisions regarding the future of our county?

When asked about why people are signing this petition Mark Groenendyk commented "people don’t understand what’s going on and what’s happened. This is unfortunate.” Mark has some explaining to do; it sure sounds like he used physical force instead of words to resolve a disagreement. How can we expect him to resolve issues in government; by using force, lawsuits, and corrupt tactics, or by civil discussion?
I believe a council member should be an example and upstanding member of the community.
Accountability! He's worried about every other department in the county following the law besides himself!
Lack of character and integrity . Watch old supervisor meeting the way he conducts himself toward the public is horrible and these charges really come as no surprise when he acts in the manner he does on a daily basis.
It is unfair to his family that he is getting off this easy. If he’s done this to his son, what else has he done to his family?
Groenendyk's arrogance and hypocrisy is astounding! He needs to do the correct action and resign.
Oskaloosa deserves better. Resign
