Push for Renewable Energy in Marion County, Oregon.
As oil prices continue to rise and the pollution from fossil fuels is further uncovered and demanded eliminated, it only seems logical to take advantage of the proven technologies and resources in renewable energy. The fastest growing and one of the most efficient ways of harnessing renewable power is through the installation of wind turbines. Obviously, wind turbines aren't the only answer, but hear my reasons for choosing them for this petition over the other methods. Oregon isn't known for its vast supply of sunshine. So solar isn't a great decision for power, but by no means would it not work. Geothermal is good, but there's no resource there. While there's plenty of land for biomass, I believe wind is the best decision for the area. There's many reasons why we should invest in wind energy along Cascade Highway. One reason is the wind resource. Doerfler Farms, just north of Sublimity, proves this resource with their commercial-size wind turbine (shown in the picture). There's also several small, residential-size wind turbines in the area. Connection to the power grid is very easy, there's plenty of land, and a good wind resource. With Oregonians gloating about how green they are with recycling, bike lanes, and the Bonneville Dam, I find it hard to believe they wouldn't agree that more renewable energy is a bad thing. I know there's enough Oregonians who agree with me. Please sign my petition if you think the installation of a wind farm along Cascade Highway is a great way to lessen our dependency on non-renewable energy, and to keep Oregon green. If enough people sign, I'll show this to NorthWest Renewable Energy Institute and local landowners to get the word out that we want wind power.
