Maria Valtorta was a devout Italian Catholic who, beginning in 1943, reported experiencing apparitions of Jesus and Mary. Her apparitions were accompanied by detailed dictations and visions of Jesus' life in first century Palestine, as told and shown (according to the seer) by Christ himself.
The result of these visions included almost 15,000 hand-written notebook pages, nearly two-thirds of which have been published into a multivolume work depicting the life of Christ, the Italian edition originally titled "The Gospel as it was Revealed to Me" and the English edition re-titled "The Poem of the Man-God". There exists a significant amount of evidence which authenticates these writings:
Over thirty percent or 79 of the 255 geographical sites in Palestine mentioned in the Poem were not listed in the 1939 International Standard Bible Encyclopedia Atlas. 62 of these 79 were not even listed in the 184 page Macmillan Bible Atlas published in 1968. Where did Maria Valtorta get all these names? Verification of so many of these locations and descriptions known only by experts in their fields and that these details were included at Jesus' own request for "the difficult doctors of the Church", is not only proof this is an eye-witness account but that these revelations were intended by Heaven to be accepted by the Church as authoritative for providing definitive clarification on so much of the Church's teachings that had become clouded and confused by too many human elements.
Other evidence that Maria Valtorta's work was of an eye witness was that nearly all of her some 15,000 hand written pages of this revelation hardly had any corrections and were written in a period of 4 years and often out of sequence! So much timing information is given, including years, seasons, Jewish feast days, months, days of the week and even time schedules for our Lord's ministry itinerary for over 350 ministry sites, that nearly every episode in the Poem and in all four Gospels can be dated!
Although the work claims to be revelation, there are no new teachings. Like all prophetic gifts to the Church, authentic prophecy has to be discerned. It skillfully fills in the gaps between the Four Canonical Gospels with such clarity, that some have dulled their minds trying in vain to find moral or doctrinal errors. Millions of readers - of all ages and walks of life - claim that this work has dramatically influenced their lives by deepening their faith by its vivid and compelling narration of the traditional Gospel writings.
