If the only viable model for energy provision is a monopoly, then all utilities should be co-cooperatively owned for the sole benefit of Island residents and businesses
The only requirement is that each utility is supplied as cheaply (and safely) as possible to the domestic consumer. No 'guaranteed profit margin' for off-Island investors.

It seems that there is also evidence to suggest that people using below 5000kW per annum have been put into the wrong band so that if they do not notice and inform Manx Gas, they will unwittingly be paying more than they should.

I have been put on band D. A rise of 60p per day while unit price is down by 2p. As a single mum on long term incapacity benefit there is no way I can afford to put my heating on this winter, it will be coats and duvets while we're at home this winter.

The comparative figures on their leaflet are misleading too. They do not directly correspond to the bills as only one includes VAT. Makes it hard to understand. Was written to deliberately hide the reality.

this is absolutely rediculous, the fact that we don't have a choice who we go to for gas makes this even more unfair!

It is criminal that such changes can be made. Aren't Utilities companies run for the people any more?

The price hike is a disgrace, the elderly will suffer most but everyone will feel the pinch. It's an abuse of power by Manx Gas.

I have a husband who has a long term chronic condition. He is at home all day. We cannot afford to have gas central heating on during the day so use a coal fire. I am always trying to use less gas and find out the less you use the more you pay
I hope it is not a cold winter as I really do not want to contribute to the shareholders of this company
My fears are also with the elderly. What wit to keep telling older people to keep warm and maintain the temperature of their homes around 18 C

This really annoys me. First they penalise people if they don't pay by DIrect Debit and now this. Getting even beyond a joke. They think hiking up prices is ok but do they ever sit and think how people are going to pay for this. I doubt it. Do they sit and think about the older generation, who only have a measly pension to get by on, how they are going to cope. I doubt it. It's that generation that suffer the most with the cold and to think that they could die of the cold breaks my heart. Have a heart Manx Gas or is that asking too much
