Campaigning for a clean and fair election does necessarily mean that one is undermining a democratically elected government. Equally, it does not mean that the actions of a democratically elected government cannot be questioned - a true democracy recognises and accepts free speech. Any democratically elected government is accountable to its electorate that elected it in the first instance. Any democratically elected government that "purports to persecute" an electorate for challenging the actions or deeds of the same government may be compromising its status as a democracy. As such, if we want to refer to ourself as a true democracy then Maria Chin MUST be released without further ado. We must remember that it is this act of challenging and making governments accountable to its electorate that improves our democracy.
