I am petitioning for all professors to have mandatory teacher education training through the College of Education and take a series of tests in pedagogy, methodology, and content with a standard minimum score to pass. There is a rapid decline in the number of students who pursue a degree in the sciences, math, or engineering. The lack of effective communication and differentiated instruction of the professors are not very conducive to their students. With mandatory teacher education training and certification, the professors will take a greater interest in the success of their students, learn how to develop interpersonal relationships with students, and learn how to bridge the gap between what they know and what the student is trying to grasp.
I have been reading through the comments from students who dropped out of their programs because they felt invisible in the lecture hall. These stories confirm that we are fighting for a change that is long overdue in our classrooms. My next step is compiling these experiences into a formal report to present to the department heads.

Seeing this grow so quickly reminds me of every time I sat in a lecture hall feeling completely lost while my professor ignored the obvious confusion in the room. This momentum proves that I am not the only one who believes our education system needs a fundamental change.

Need this change so badly. maybe fewer people would drop stem majors if the instructors actually cared about pedagogy.

Long overdue. The way some of these profs talk down to students who are just trying to learn is unacceptable.

My calc professor has no idea how to explain anything. He just reads off slides and expects us to know it all.

YES. Being smart doesnt mean you know how to teach. Some of these guys are brilliant researchers but hopeless in a classroom.
