GMO Definition: genetically modified organism: an organism or microorganism whose genetic material has been altered by means of genetic engineering. The FDA does not require any safety evaluations for GMOs. Instead, biotech companies, who have been found guilty of hiding toxic effects of their chemical products, are now in charge of determining whether their GM foods are safe. FDA scientists warned that GMOs can create unpredictable, hard-to-detect side effects, including allergies, toxins, new diseases, major organ malfunctions, and nutritional problems. They urged long term safety studies, but were ignored. Now our food is being genetically altered and changed drastically each day, without our knowledge or consent. The major Genetically Modified Crops on the market today are as follows: - Corn 95% - Soy 95% - Sugar (Sugarbeets) - Canola 99% - Cotton 99% Next on the list are Rice, Alfalfa and a host of other foods and crops that we either eat, or come in contact with through the ingestion of certain foods and animals. Children can react to much smaller doses of toxins than adults. Exposure to hormones or endocrine disruptors may also severely affect normal development. And kids who are prone to infections may be severely impacted if antibiotics lose their effectiveness due to antibiotic-resistant genes in GM food. Children as well consume a large amount of products that may be genetically engineered. They eat a higher percentage of corn in their diet compared to adults, and allergic children often rely on corn or soy as a source of protein. Currently there are about 300 acres of GMO crops in Europe and labeling is Mandatory. On the Western side of the world we have over 300 Million Hectares of GMO crops and zero labeling. This is an extremely frightening statistic, but together WE can change things. Here are some tips to avoid the dangers of GMO foods!!! TIP #1: BUY ORGANIC TIP #2: LOOK FOR “NON-GMO” LABEL TIP #3: AVOID AT-RISK INGREDIENTS TIP #4 : USE A NON-GMO SHOPPING GUIDE TIP #5 : SIGN THIS PETITION AND SPREAD AWARENESS
