Require, by Federal law, to have ALL health supplements, to include all natural and synthetic vitamins, minerals, herbals, to be fully certified by the United States Pharmacopia (USP). This must include all products ingested or applied externally for health & performance benefits. These products are critical to users health and we spend billions yearly on these products & we must be assured that we get what we pay for, and that we feel assured of a guaranteed formula to make wise decisions. With the recent findings of the New York Attorney General of extremely unsafe and/or ineffective products and the fact that he ordered many items off the shelves immediately,should become a world wide concern and the federal govt must take the lead in protecting it's citizens. Many users could be doing more harm than good and actually increase health costs instead of reversing costs. FDA should be assigned as the federal enforcer in this case as the USP must remain an independent institution. No longer should we see the equivalent of placebos, inconsistent content, dangerous compounds and even pills full of sand. The federal govt primary job is to ensure its citizens are protected against unscrupulous money hogs that prey on people with the promise of miracles. The Congress, Senate & president must step up now to resolve this problem, We must also infuse the USP with enough funds to expand sufficiently to handle this increased workload. to complete all testing within a 5 yr grace period. Truth in advertising should be expanded, clarified and enforced here without regard. Penalties should be very steep,applied quickly and with teeth to discourage wrong doing & harming people for the sake of profit. Also allow for criminal prosecution in the event a bad product causes illness, permanent injury or death.
