The National Capital Commission has officially approved the Makonsag proposal for Victoria Island. This outcome honors Grandfather Commanda's vision and ensures our children will learn upon their ancestral lands. I appreciate the dedication of the 433 individuals who contributed to this result.

RE: Support for Makonsag Aboriginal Head Start proposal for 150 Middle Street
I urgently appeal to the National Capital Commission to grant Makonsag the right to use the ancestral land on Victoria Island.
Grandfather William Commanda, recipient of the Order of Canada, believed that respect, justice and harmony could be achieved among people of all nations and vowed to preserve our sacred spaces, including Victoria Island.
Please consider the importance of Makonsag’s bid to provide programming on our ancestral land, allowing Ottawa’s Aboriginal children to grow up where we have learned, taught and celebrated for millennium.
I fully support Makonsag’s bid to establish permanent programming at 150 Middle Street.
The momentum surrounding our proposal for the Victoria Island site continues to build as we approach two hundred and fifty signatures. I invite you to circulate this petition among your personal networks to expedite our progress toward this milestone.

It makes so much sense to have this program on ancestral land. Honoring history while teaching the kids is the best way forward.

Grandfather Commanda had the right idea. Victoria Island should be used for something that actually helps our community thrive.

Let Makonsag set up shop! Tired of seeing that space just sit empty when it could be helping kids.
