I honestly cannot believe I am typing this but the school finally agreed to open up that algebra-based physics track for the younger grades. It feels surreal that we actually managed to get them to listen to us after all that back and forth about scheduling and prerequisites. Please keep …

Dear All: SHS current Physics track has two levels “Regular” and “AP”, and both can be taken in 11th grade since their prerequisite is Chemistry (10th grade). AP Physics appears to be one of the hardest classes on the campus. In order to reduce academic stress in junior year, a lot of people in the Saratoga High Community have been advocating for making algebra-based Regular Physic an option for 9th or 10th grade, just like two other STEM curriculum- biology and chemistry. We would like to take it up with school administration. Please sign this petition to help us to achieve this goal. Thank you!

I really cannot believe how much energy is behind this movement right now. It feels like people everywhere finally realize how much pressure is on the juniors and that things need to shift sooner rather than later.

Having an option of regular physics is necessary to give kids exposure to physics and give them a chance to identify if higher studies in physics is for them or not.

We should definitely offer Physics before 11th grade. In Silicon Valley where many of our kids may have interest in Engineering and where Physics is an integral part of the Engineering curriculum, we are definitely not addressing our students' needs when we do not allow our kids the option of exploring Physics earlier.

I totally agree with this proposition. As a physics major I know that one year physics course is too hush for even advanced learner. some preparation has to be done at earlier stage.

Absolutely. I think this is a great idea. As a comparison, Monta Vista and Lynbrook offer reg Phy starting 10th http://montavista.schoolloop.com/file/1211910112826/1126505882599/3460810465765370757.pdf and http://www.lhs.fuhsd.org/cms/page_view?d=x&piid=&vpid=1359112837105 Gunn offers physics from 10th http://gunn.pausd.org/sites/default/files/Gunn%20Science%20Options%202015.pdf

Very much support this. Our older daughter is a junior and suffers this dilemma. Also the kids aren't allowed to triple science any year so that limits their options.

It is too late for the students to start to learn physics at 11th grade. Some students are already ready to learn at 9th or 10th grade.

Hey Guys, It's been a while. How was this petition fared? I talked to Rita about this since I got email about this petition from her just a day ago about ideas for the future. Any interests?

Every kid is different. A good school should provide kids the classes based on the capabilities, not the school years. Thanks for the consideration.
