Old Dominion University currently does not allow students or staff on campus to have; knives, guns, pepper spray, candles, and many more items however they allow guests to open carry as long as they do not enter a building then guests just have to check it with ODU police. This goes along with Virginia's open carry policies however this does not apply to students or faculty. I am creating this petition to follow in the steps of UVA to make all grounds of ODU campus a facility so no one is able to carry guns and weapons on campus at all. This is important in today's political climate making many protests violent due to the allowance of firearms by those who are "guests" on campuses. This would not only make the students attending ODU safer, but also making the community safer for those who want to express their opinions in a protest without fear of getting injured.
