As of now, we only have Youth and Government practice once a week. We believe that making Youth and Government an elective will give us a longer time to Debate and create bills. Debating is a large part of a Democracy and if the children of tomorrow are not able to talk about discussions in issues in our society: we will crumble as a whole. Not just that, but many people in the building of Dowell cannot join Youth and Government because of after school activities. If we were to make Youth and Government an elective, it would mean that many people would get to join and debate in issues that could affect our society without concern of the time restraints. Not just that, but right now the people who are in Youth and Government sometimes do not have the time that they need to prepare for state and some 6th grade chairs don’t even know what they are doing. If we were able to have it every day, there would be no problem since we have the whole year to practice. Again, in order to have a perfect society and Democracy, us kids need the practice in order to achieve our goals in the system. Please take this into consideration and thank you for reading.
-Sincerely, Y&G Students

We would really like it if you would vote for this petition! It would help out so many different students at Dowell Middle School.

Please Keep Mrs. AB's name out of all of this. It was youth and government as a whole not Mrs. AB!
These kids are the future of our political landscape... As a one time GOP Delegate, I understand the value of learning how to be an effective leader and an engaged participant in the political system. Learning quality debate techniques and Robert's Rules at an early age will set them up for future success in politics, business and life. With all the other extra-curricular activities out there, it's difficult to juggle them all, which is why I believe Youth & Government is important enough to transition into a school day elective. Thank you, Mike Shelton
