As smoking becomes more and more stigmatized, more and more apartments are adopting a strict no-smoking policy. Why hasn't the Palatine?

Even if you don't have an adjacent apartment neighbor who smokes, you've probably caught a whiff of that putrid, toxic smell coming through your open window from someone nearby. It's disgusting.

Why should non-smokers have to tolerate the secondhand smoke and horrible smell of those in the building who could care less how their habit affects others? Why should we lose the enjoyment of our outdoor space because someone else invades it with their poisonous air? It's not fair. Smokers can move away from non-smokers to light up, but can non-smokers move their balconies away from the smokers? It's ridiculous.

The Palatine management wouldn't tolerate it for a second if someone routinely released clouds of toxic, noxious gas from off their balcony. So why should smoking be treated differently? Smokers in the building are infringing on the rights of others to quiet enjoyment of their space. They can smoke all they want outside the building, but it's time to put an end to this policy of allowing them to smoke while on the premises. It's disgusting, it's a nuisance, and it endangers the health of those around them.
