Make SJC Feel Like Home Again

I think us human beings are decent enough that if our sneakers/shoes/etc are dirty (ex: the rainy weather) we will not put our dirty feet on the ottomans. However this is called a "lounge." We pay thousands to attend your beloved college, if we want to relax after a stressful day of classes or before an incoming stressful day of classes, we should be allowed to. We shouldn't be belittled over something as little as putting our feet on a footstool. I think for a member of the SJC staff to touch a student's broken foot just to put a piece of paper underneath it clearly has a desire to hold power over us. Don't you have IMPORTANT things to do? Because I'm sure you are not getting paid to bully the SJC community.

This is absolutely DEAD ON. As an alumni of the college, I always bragged to people about SJC being like my second home. Being on campus now, I not only feel like a total stranger, but like I am trespassing... The campus atmosphere has flipped 180 degrees!!! This is no longer a college I feel like bragging about...and the rules are just the tip of the iceberg. It feels like the next rule will be asking us to walk in single file lines and designating line leaders! I understand that some administration members (particularly in the student life department) feel like they may know more because they have their degrees already. But here's a quick lesson even you (Dr Howell) can understand, these "students" are not children, and if you are that concerned with the childish rules you are implementing, then maybe you should take your degree to a kindergarten where it belongs.

Dr. Howell has gone so far as to physically lift my foot while elevated on an ottoman in the lounge and while in a soft cast to put a sheet of blank copy paper underneath so that my cast wasn't in direct contact with the ottoman. It's laughably ridiculous the rules she's trying to implement!

The way things have been changing this semester is ridiculous. I feel like students no longer have a voice at all and when complaints are made they're ignored and often students are made to feel like they don't matter. It isn't right and shouldn't be tolerated by the students or the school.

For the most part , my experience at St. Joseph's has been a very positive one. Recently, the whole atmosphere has changed and the new lounge is FAR from comfortable. I am happy that something is being done to change what has been taking place.

As an alumni of St Joseph's College I wholeheartedly support the goal of this petition. I myself have seen the transition of SJC from the home environment to a foreign place. It can be seen in the lack of student involvement. My freshman through junior year students were actively on campus and always wanted to be there. By the time my senior came around I have seen that diminish. Not to mention new administration has tried to create a sense of intimidation amongst students. In particular I am speaking of Dr. Howell who I have seen chastise students for things like playing video games in the cafeteria. She doesn't not foster the environment we appreciate at St. Joseph's College campus. But this is not solely her fault, she is just a part of the problem.

I have been yelled at numerous times for "leaning" on a cafeteria table. This is ridiculous.

Glad this finally came about. I have graduated, but I have heard stories of this situation becoming worse.
