Ballard is a mess of garbage, drug addicts, theives, vagrants and homeless people who do not work or pay taxes or contribute to the community in any way. We need a minimum of a 2 full time neighborhood or beat cops cleaning up the mess. It will take years and arrests need to made.

My neighborhood (Blue Ridge) regularly experiences package theft and car break ins. My husbands car was recently broken into and his wallet stolen. My work neighborhood is experiencing smash and grabs on busy streets in broad daylight--N 80th. This is ridiculous.

A lot of bicycles have been stolen from a "secure" garage in our apartment building.

The last 12 months on our block: 15+ car break-ins, our baby stroller - including infant carseat - stolen off our front porch, graffiti to our garage door in alleyway, attempted break-in to our back door at 11pm while we were asleep.
We don't pretend to live in a bubble, we contribute to and care about our community and those who may be struggling to get by, but this is not the neighborhood we moved into less than 5 years ago. We don't pretend to have it worse than other neighborhoods in Seattle - but we do expect basic protection and response that our tax dollars fund.
There are simple solutions to these issues. Allowing unsanctioned, illegal communities with issues of substance abuse and related petty crime to rise in our neighborhood will only contribute to a rise in the type of behavior we've experienced first hand.

Our Cities Government is way out of touch with what's going on in the Seattle.

There is a shocking and appalong lack of protection and enforcement in Seattle. It's getting worse by the day and I know longer feel safe in my own neighborhood of Ballard. This is a sad time for our city with officials doing nothing to address the issue.

Our house was broken into 2 weeks ago in Crown Hill. Safety is becoming a huge issue around downtown Ballard in general. It's gotten exponentially worse over the last year. I've been working in Ballard since 2001.

Porch package theft is rampant. I don't even have my packages delivered to my home anymore because so many have disappeared.

It's truly alarming how much crime has risen in the last year. We have a very low police presence around Loyal Heights, and crime is everywhere lately, to the point my kids aren't allowed out after dusk anymore. The recent scare at my son's school (Ballard HS), and common knowledge of lots of drug use at the school are alarming.

Beyond pathetic city leaders that are not interested in protecting their city or it's tax paying citizens. Word is out in this country to move to "Freeattle".......especially if you are wanted by the law. SCARY!

During the past six weeks, we had our mailbox ripped off the wall of our townhouse in Central Ballard and our mail stolen; our bikes stripped of parts on Magnolia; a flat tire after running over a needle on the Burke Gilman; threatened at QFC in Ballard by someone with apparent mental health problems. We know people with many more, and worse, stories that ours. But something needs to be done now.

Please allow SPD to do their job by enforcing the laws we have already enacted. Let the courts do their job too, and stop politicizing homelessness.
Please keep citizens and property safe and help those in need by improving their situation, not allowing it to fester or degrade into a worse state.

The "hands-off" approach to working with the homeless-by-choice population in the Ballard area is making the area around my business and home dangerous and dirty. Please do what you what elected to do which is manage this city, fill the potholes and curb crime ... not travel internationally to "act" on global initiatives.

Our cars are broken into on a monthly basis, have to dodge human feces and garbage from illegal campers while walking my 9 year old son to classes, have been verbally and physically attacked by drug/vagrants types in Market ave. The lack of patrols and law enforcement are sheameful and unacceptable. Anarchy is
not acceptable and the Gov and City Councel are negligent and incompetent failures. This petition is not enough and we should be be working for a recall or impeachment.

Dear Mayor Murray - I respect and endorse your efforts to end homelessness in our city. However, the criminal activity in my once very safe neighborhood is frightening. The home immediately behind mine was broken into this past weekend, and my neighbors car was broken into in the past month. Please focus efforts on helping us keep our neighborhoods safe while welcoming those less fortunate to them.
What is criminal is that this is being allowed to take place and is not being addressed. Please take our concerns seriously and act to correct this. Thanks.
