Mr. Mayor and City Council: I'm sure it feels great to get your ever-increasing tax hikes passed, but we're kind of wondering why, with all of those increases, there seems to be no concern for our communities and kids. Citizens in Ballard, QA, Magnolia, and Fremont matter, too. We also pay a substantial amount of taxes . And vote. Or leave the city when we're simply paying and not seeing any returns.

Based on everyone else's experience, and the lack of action to clear the junk cars, to prohibit folks from camping on sidewalks, or to take action against blatant bike thieves (with piles of bikes beneath tarps), it appears that the SPD has abandoned any efforts to police property crime or keep public spaces open for the public. I am not a vigilante and do not support that solution, so please put more cops on the streets of Ballard, keep the streets and sidewalks open and clear, and through action, let all folks know that there are consequences for our actions. If you go through a stop light, you get a ticket. If you break into a car or steal a bicycle, or park illegally, there should also be a consequence

I cannot leave my house for fear it will be broken into while I'm buying groceries, or invaded while I'm in it if I stay inside. I'm a 62-year-old grandma and not up to wrestling with a burglar. Ten years ago I didn't even lock my doors when I went to the store; now I have sharp or blunt instruments scattered throughout the house and my cell is predialed to 911 so I just have to press the call key. I don't sleep much, or well. I've installed some cameras, but that isn't going to stop anyone. I have watched burglaries edge closer to my house by a block every couple of days. Last night there was a prowler across the alley. Why don't you make my neighborhood (Greenwood East) a test site for monitored CCTVs on each street corner and alleyway. With either the police and/or neighborhood residents monitoring the cameras 24/7, and fast response from the police. (Watching someone clean out a residence is not as rewarding as seeing them apprehended while doing so.) If something is not done to curb this huge increase in mail theft (I've had packages stolen from my porch and mailbox), car and bike theft (my bike was stolen last month), burglaries, home invasions, and squatting, someone is going to get hurt or killed in a confrontation with a thief. Soon, is my guess. There must be ways to make this neighborhood unprofitable for criminals before something tragic happens (all the more so because it was preventable). we are under siege here and need help.

The city needs to have a comprehensive plan for its continued development. Right now it feels like the homeowners have less rights and protection than the drug-addled urchins pissing allover our city.

We have noted the increase in small crimes such as package thefts & car prowls in our neighborhood. I also have had to explain to my young children why people are sleeping in sleeping bags under the graffiti displayed at the Westerco Donut Shop, with much garbage & liquor bottles all around. This is just a couple blocks from our house. I would love for my kids to feel safe in our neighborhood as they grow up & gain more independence.

Something needs to be done about the quality of life for homeowners in these neighborhoods.

We can no longer take our little grandchildren to play in our neighborhood Commons Park. It's been commandeered by a growing number homeless men and their belongings. They drink, swear, share drugs, light fires, and sleep on every available bench and in cars and vans on the adjoining streets. They huddle in front of the children’s favorite candy store, take carts from QFC, and make outrageous comments to those passing by. It’s a major safety concern and the city has done nothing. We want the Commons returned to the children and residents of the neighborhood.

This is a disgrace. This is an awful city with people and politicians who don't care about anything but their own sanctimony. We are leaving, and I feel bad for the people that will inherit our tax bill.

I live on 109th St. and the rise in crime has become nearly unbearable, if this issue isn't addressed soon, I regret to say, my family will cease to be residents of the city.

PLEASE, do something! We moved to this neighborhood in 1972 when we had a young child. It was a wonderful, safe neighborhood. It is a dangerous, scary place now and we have NO protection from the City even those we have extremely high property taxes. What are we paying for??!!

While not in this area I live near Bitter Lk in north Seattle. People living in RVS for months at a time with no police action is just getting worse. My tenants cars have been broken into 3 times in the past few weeks. Calling police is useless. Seattle needs to clean up our image. Its not what it used to be.

Our neighbors and the police are both frustrated by the lack of police resources and response. Seattle is one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., but police support, presence and staffing have not kept up. It's time to correct this.
